Dear SSAS Members,

I hope you and your families are keeping well.  One week to Christmas, who’s all finished their Christmas shopping?  Eh, not me, I haven’t even started…oops!  ‘Tis the season to be jolly!!

Welcome to my 5th Chieftain’s Chatter, the last for this year.  This is the forum for keeping you updated on what’s been happening and what’s coming up regarding our Society events.

CHARITIES

I am delighted to announce on behalf of the committee of Selangor St. Andrew’s Society (“SSAS”) that we have donated RM33,000 to Lighthouse Children Welfare Home Association from the funds raised during the annual Inter-Society Golf Tournament earlier this year. This money was used to install solar panels on the roof of one of their houses, to meet most of their power needs and so remove the burden of high utility bills.

Furthermore, from the profits raised at the very successful 10^th Kuala Lumpur Highland Games in September, I am happy to report that our 5 chosen charities, namely Hospis Malaysia, Batu Grace Ashram, Grace Education Centre, SPCA Malaysia and Sun Bear Conservation Centre all received the fantastic sum of RM11,000 each. In addition, a further RM5,000 was donated to Food4U.

A very special thank you to all our very generous sponsors and supporters for making this possible.

ARMISTICE REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

The ceremony took place on Sunday 9th November, 2025 at Tugu Negara, Kuala Lumpur to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.  Our Vice Chieftain laid a wreath on behalf of the Society.

ST. ANDREW’S CELEBRATION

The annual celebration of St. Andrew’s night was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Saturday 29th November 2025.  Over 160 guests were treated to entertainment from the amazing St. John’s Alumni Pipe Band and danced the night away to Scotland’s finest ceilidh band, Clappy Doo. The 4-course dinner was delicious and included a generous portion of haggis, neeps & tatties, accompanied by free-flow wine and a complimentary bottle of whisky on every table.

ASEAN St. Andrew’s Society and RIO Investment Club, our main sponsors for the evening, kindly gave away a Platinum coin valued at US$1,500 to one very lucky winner, which was followed by our own raffle draw for a host of great prizes. 

BURNS NIGHT

Our first event in 2026 will be Burns Night on Saturday 31st January, at the Four Seasons Hotel.  Tickets are now on sale, have you registered yet?  To commemorate the life and works of our famous bard, we have invited Christopher Tait, Scotland’s leading Robert Burns impersonator to give us a spirited rendition of some of his famous works.  

INTER-SOCIETY GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Inter-Society Golf Tournament hosted by SSAS will be on Saturday 18^th April, 2026 at Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club.  Further details to follow in due course.

AGM, WHISKY TASTING, QUIZ & KARAOKE

The AGM will start at 6.30pm, to be followed at 7.30pm by the Whisky Tasting, Quiz & Karaoke on Saturday 9^th May 2026 at the very atmospheric Lion’s Den, Bunglow37, Bangsar.  Further details to follow nearer the time.
