Hello Members,
Hope all is well with you and you’re looking forward to the summer break. My hubby and I are heading to the UK next month, so hoping the beautiful weather continues. Whether it’s warm or not, at least it won’t be as cold as it was when we were over in January. Shovelling snow and digging out the car was not my idea of a holiday; it was freezing!
As promised in my last Chieftain’s Chatter, I want to keep you updated on what’s been happening so far and what’s coming up for our Society events.
INTER-SOCIETY GOLF TOURNAMENT
The annual Inter-Society Golf tournament was held on Saturday 14th June 2025 at Tasik Puteri Golf Resort. This year’s event was hosted by last year’s winners, The Royal Society of St George Malaysia, in collaboration with Wedge and a dedicated team of volunteers. With 78 players representing three societies, Selangor St. Andrew’s Society, The Royal Society of St George Malaysia and St. Patrick’s Society of Selangor, the scramble competition commenced with a shotgun start.
The competition also included some fun extra contests at several Novelty Holes:
· Nearest to the Pin sponsored by Melbourne Capital
· Longest Drive sponsored by Asian Tigers
· Nearest to the Line sponsored by Sunway Medical Centre
· Beat the Pro sponsored by Wedge Essentials
I’m delighted to announce that this year’s winners were Selangor St. Andrew’s Society.
Congratulations Team Scotland for bringing the trophy home where it belongs!
Through generous sponsorship and several fabulous raffle prizes, including the new and exciting addition of the charity auction, featuring luxury stay and play holiday packages donated by Siam Country Club, Pattaya and The Datai, Langkawi, this year’s tournament raised an amazing RM41,000. A heartfelt Thank You goes out to the organisers, sponsors, players and volunteers who contributed significantly to making this possible.
As winners of this year’s tournament, Selangor St. Andrew’s Society will choose which deserving charities will be the beneficiaries of the funds raised.
BATU GAJAH REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

Vice Chieftain, Alistair Sim attended the remembrance service at God’s Little Acre, Batu Gajah on Saturday 21st June 2025. Organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA), the service was attended by representatives of a range of military, civic and industry stakeholders, as well as descendants, family and friends of those brave veterans.
Such a moving service pays respect to all those who sadly lost their lives during 1948-1960 Malayan emergency. Alistair had the honour of laying a wreath on behalf of our Society.
ALICE SMITH SCHOOL HUMANITIES AWARD PRESENTATION
This year’s annual Humanities Award presentation took place at the Alice Smith School, Main Hall, Secondary Campus on Tuesday 25th June 2025. I had the honour of presenting the Humanities Award to Jessie G, Year 13 student, on behalf of the Selangor St. Andrew’s Society.

10th KL HIGHLAND GAMES
Celebrating our 10th Anniversary, this year’s event is on Saturday 20th September 2025 at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort. Thanks to the support of our generous sponsors, the Games will see the return of the famous Heavy strongmen, talented Pipe & Drum bands and the one-and-only Craig Hill, Scottland’s finest funny man, as MC.
We are looking forward to another successful and fun-filled day with a bumper crowd enjoying the rides and activities of the Kids’ Village, taking part in fun contests like the Tug of War, Welly Boot Toss and (new for this year) the Barrel Race. And all of this while also finding time for a stroll through the Shopping Village and making full use of the huge bar marquee and a range of delicious food stalls. Keep an eye out for further details on the lead up to the big day!
ST. ANDREW’S CELEBRATION
This year’s St. Andrew’s Celebration is on Saturday 29th November 2025. Once again, we celebrate Scotland’s patron Saint at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. We can look forward to our favourite ceilidh band, Clappy Doo, returning from Scotland along with live performances from St. John’s Alumni pipe band. Further details will follow later in the year.
BURNS SUPPER
Next year’s Burns Supper is on Saturday 31st January 2026. We will again celebrate in fine style the life and works of Scotland’s famous bard, Rabbie Burns, at the Four Seasons Hotel. Further details will follow later in the year.
