April - June 2026

Dear SSAS Members,
welcome back after the summer break. Here's a quick rundown of what's been happening and what's in store regarding our Society events.
BURNS NIGHT
The annual Burns Night celebration took place at the Four Seasons Hotel on Saturday, 31st January. We had the honour of welcoming a very special guest, Christopher Tait, Scotland’s renowned Robert Burns impersonator who flew in specially, dressed as the Bard himself, and delivered a lively rendition of the address to the haggis and a selection of traditional poetry. With delicious food, free flow wine and whisky on the tables, a fantastic night was had by all. We were further entertained by some excellent speeches and amazing performances from the very talented St. John’s Alumni Pipe Band and Vox Suara choir.
INTER-SOCIETY GOLF TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to the members of the SSAS golf team, who won this year’s Inter-Society Golf Tournament, retaining the trophy! Organised by SSAS, this year’s tournament was held on 18th April at Tasik Puteri Golf & Country Club, bringing together 80 players representing SSAS, The Royal Society of St. George Malaysia, and St. Patrick's Society of Selangor for a day of friendly rivalry and some fabulous golf.
We are very grateful to our sponsors Melbourne Capital Group, Asian Tigers Malaysia, Terra Asia Group, the Corkman Irish Bar & Restaurant, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, WEDGE, and Peacock Golf Society, whose generous contributions helped raise significant funds for charity.
Despite wild storms stopping play before the rounds were fully completed, enough golf was played to decide all competitions in respect of the Longest Drive, Yellow Ball, Nearest the Pin, Nearest the Line, Best Nett Pair and Best Gross Pair. All winners received some fabulous prizes. In addition, thanks go to the providers of some superb additional prizes that went to auction on the night: The Datai Langkawi for a luxury stay including dinner & golf for 4 people; the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with SSAS for complimentary tickets for the 2026 St. Andrew’s Ball, including an overnight stay with breakfast for 2 people; and Smith & Wollensky for 2 vouchers for dinner and drinks at their recently opened steakhouse in KL.
Huge thanks also go to the organisers and volunteers, whose tireless efforts made the day such a success, not only for the players, but for the local charities that will benefit from the amazing RM35K raised.
AGM, WHISKY TASTING, QUIZ & KARAOKE
On Saturday 9th May, 2026 we held the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Society plus the very popular Whisky Tasting, Quiz and Karaoke night at the quirky Lion’s Den at Bunglow37, Bangsar. Winners of the Whisky Tasting received a fabulous booze basket. We had a selection of tempting raffle prizes and ASEAN St. Andrew’s Society kindly donated a very special vintage malt to one lucky winner.
ST. ANDREW’S CELEBRATION
This year’s annual Ball in celebration of St. Andrew’s night will be held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Saturday 28th November 2026. Details can be found in the Events tab on the website.
KLHG 2027
We have started planning for the next KL Highland Games (KLHG), which will be held at Bukit Kiara on Saturday 10th April 2027. Keep an eye out for more details and do let us know if you would like to be involved as a Sponsor, Vendor or Volunteer.
